Interview with Professional Make-Up Artist, Beauty Therapist and Founder of OgeSpanish Magazine Linda Bella

Linda Bella

What inspired you to become a professional Make-Up Artist and Beauty Therapist?
I personally love the make-up industry.  I am passionate as to how a makeover session can make significant changes to individuals perception of themselves and love seeing my clients happy with their new look.  I am also passionate about the Beauty Therapy aspect too….. let me take you briefly back to the beginning of how it all started.  I was awarded a scholarship by Beryl Barnard (Educational Director at The London School of Beauty and Make-Up) and sponsored by Soap & Glory UK throughout the duration of my studies – quite simply that is how my life changed.  I finished my course, attained my qualification and the immense pleasure and sense of achievement I felt after seeing the clients’ that I worked on so relaxed and happy after each treatment, gave me the encouragement and drive to achieve more and flourish further in my chosen profession.  Still to this day the feedback I receive amazes me and makes me feel so proud, I continuously want to do more for my clients and customers.

Following the popularity of London Fashion Week and the AW13 collections that were showcased, what top tips can you share regarding achieving a flawless fall look?
Oh the LFW AW13 collections blew me away! - the colours and different styles are a constant inspiration for me.  My top tips to achieve a flawless fall look are:

To have a fresh and natural face – achieve a flawless complexion with the right amount of coverage and strategic highlighting.  I would say use nude shades to contour your face, making sure to highlight these key areas:
  • The bottom and top portion of your lips to make their shape more prominent
  • Your brow bones
  • Just above your blush to make your cheekbones stand out

Another favourite of mine is ‘futuristic eyes’ – dramatic swoops and exaggerated shapes were all the rage at fall fashion shows.  From thick strokes to saturated shadows, this season is all about making a statement with your eyes! and lastly the ‘Mulberry Mouth’. Red is always fitting for fall, however this season the classic hue gets a fresh, twilight-esque makeover that I absolutely love! Dark, wine-stained lips are bold and romantic and they work on any skin tone.  Try either a creamy matte finish, or a patent-leather gloss.  An important tip is to use an exfoliating lip treatment to buff away any flakes and apply a clear lip balm before your lipstick to help you adjust the intensity of your red.

With Spring/Summer approaching what inspirations and colour ways do you think will be showcased on the streets of London over the next couple of months?
I would say pink.  The colour pink is back in all channels and inspires new aesthetics in the high-end fashion product creation.  In the past few seasons, we have seen pink slowly creep back into designer collections and making a strong statement.  Also dark green, dusky citron, bistro green, mellow yellow and sulfur yellow, are all must-have shades for the forthcoming Spring/Summer season. There are so many to choose from, but lets just say that the main colours will be ’tropical’.

How important do you believe it is to have a healthy diet and positive attitude?
Very important.  If we are not healthy, how would we be able to go about our daily and earn money to survive.  Health should always be our number one priority and come first, that is what I always say.  As for a positive attitude, I’m a great believer of this.  Positive thinking will let you achieve anything you desire, once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you start having excellent results.  Positive feelings come from being honest about yourself and accepting your personality and physical characteristics, (warts and all!) and from belonging to a family who accepts you without question or judgement.

What has been one of your favourite career inspired moments?
There have been many, however when I started my online digital Talk Show Magazine, built my website, launched it and got cracking on the interviews, I realised that I had survived all the hard times, overcome my fears, and pushed aside all the negativity and past experiences in my life.  I had many goals and an attitude that I must achieve them.  One of my favorite moments was when I got my current job, which also added to my confidence and boosted my self-esteem.

Tell us more about Ogespanish Talk Show Magazine and your role as its Founder?
Oh wow where do I start? There are two aspects as to how Ogespanish Talk Show Magazine started.  Firstly back in 2010, I started hosting talk shows via an online virtual network called IMVU.  I would decorate a room, add virtual furniture, invite a guest and the audiences would flock in.  I was happy to see how this type of interaction allowed individuals from different countries come together in one ‘virtual room’, watch the show. I was happy to see how this type of interaction allowed individuals from different countries come together in one room to see the show. Then I decided to bring it more to life and into the real world.  I started by reaching out through blogs and websites and then contacted a few celebrities and models.  All my guests have been fantastic and were so lovely and kind to do the interviews.  Among many I have interviewed are: JERMAINE DUPRI, DAWN RICHARD, ISAIAH WASHINGTON, JHENE AIKO, ERICA MENA, NANA AFUA, NNENNA AGBA, CHRISTOPHER VILLA, SINEM-BILEN-ONABANJO and many more . I personally love designing the interviews and thank God for my graphic skills, as I hate to rely on people for things and like the famous saying ” if you want something done, you have to do it yourself” so there you are, that is how it all began and I have not stopped smiling since.

What one piece of advice would you give to those who wanted to break into the industry?
I would say to not be in such a hurry, God’s time is the best and what will be, will be.  Stay focused on what you want to do, have a plan, map out your plan thoroughly and go for it.  It is a very tough world out there, but if you feel you are strong enough to handle all the hurdles, then you can achieve anything and I personally wish you all the best.

What is your motto in life?
‘Visualisation is Realisation’

Interview with Semi-Professional Bodybuilder and RockSport Ambassador Fernando Chavez

What inspired you to take up body building on a professional level?
The feeling of seeing all the hard work and endurance paying off through the transformation of your own body.

How often do you train?

I currently train 4 days a week off-season and pre-contest 5 days a week.

What is your standard daily routine when preparing for a competition?
I’ll do cardiovascular work early morning for approximately 30-45 minutes on an empty stomach and then weight training later on in the day for 45 minutes.  I generally train 3 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on etc. in rotation.

How important is the role of good nutrition and a healthy balanced diet in your life?
Nutrition is a fundamentally important factor to me, because it determines whether you will successfully achieve your desired goals or not.  No matter how dedicated to weight training and top-level fitness you are, if your nutrition is not excellent, you will fail if your  body is not in a prime state of health.

What have been your toughest challenges so far?
The rigorous diet and strict exercise regime for 13 weeks whilst being true to myself and achieving the muscle mass I desire without the aid of any unethical substances.

What advice would you give to any young men and women who are interested in building muscle but have never embarked on a serious training programme before?
Determine what you want to achieve from bodybuilding, set small realistic and achievable goals, never give up, stay determined and harvest the rewards!

What motivates you?
In terms of bodybuilding - to be able to endure the 13 week preparation phase, knowing that everything I did was to the best of my abilities.
In life - to achieve all the goals I set myself and to continue to grow as an individual.

What is your motto in life?
Good luck is the result of hard work and determination – it’s always too early to quit!

BIOGRAPHY
Fernando Chavez is a semi-professional athlete, competing as a super heavyweight bodybuilder in 5 National and 1 Regional Show, placing 2nd and 4th.  He is also an Ambassador for RockSport and highly successful businessman.
