Skin Care Revolution

Skin Anatomy

The approach towards skin care has over the last decade changed beyond recognition. Gone are the days in which the use of well reviewed cleansers, toners and moisturisers from leading product houses provided sufficient overall satisfaction to the modern consumer. Nowadays following the change of attitude towards cosmetic surgery and with the emergence of the medi clinic and deluxe wellness spas, who offer a broad range of treatments and services such as microdermabrasion, skin resurfacing, dermal fillers, chemical peels, body electrotherapy and nutritional advice, historic facial therapies and standard body massage treatments have slowly been outnumbered by innovative bamboo massages, acupuncture, lava shell massages, gold peel and ice cube facials and hot oil baths. Topical products have to an extent fallen victim to the resurgence of eco-friendly organic cosmetics and essential grooming services such as waxing have been challenged by the modern developments of laser … [Read more...]

The importance of skin analysis

Skin Analysis

It is a well-documented fact that our skin is the largest and most complex organ of the body, however how many of us can confidently say that we truly understand the integral relationship it plays with the rest of our systems, in addition to its incredible structure and plethora of functions?  Consisting of seven layers in total which collectively form the epidermis and dermis, in addition to a further subcutaneous layer which is composed of fat and connective tissue, the skin is ultimately responsible for: - cellular transfer and regeneration - lipid formation and expulsion - temperature control - prevention against the loss of moisture - insulation - sensory control - providing protection for our internal organs - prevention against invading pathogens and harmful UV rays - detecting infections due to its immune functions acting as a protective barrier against injury - keratinisation - the production of vitamin D On average our skin spans between fourteen and … [Read more...]

Before you next consider accepting an enticing massage when on holiday, or in a situation when you are unaware of the credibility or the qualifications of the individual offering the relaxing and indulgent treatment, it would be beneficial to read on.... There is regrettably still a perception surrounding the qualifications and skills of Beauty Therapists that does not always paint a favourable image of the industry. This is largely due to a small minority of Therapists not adhering to the stringent standards and business codes of conduct that they should and the irresponsibility of employers for not ensuring that their customer experience programmes are maintained at all times. It is the role of a Beauty Therapist to perform facial and body treatments, in addition to essential grooming and hair removal services, that will enhance the image and wellbeing of their client's. Qualifications vary greatly, however industry and government standards ensure that a Beauty Therapist … [Read more...]

Why change career in your thirties?

Awakening to a new life

My journey into the magical world of health and beauty did not follow the usual pathway of leaving school at an early age with dreams of working in a luxury exotic spa performing daily massages surrounded by palm trees, idyllic sands and the gentle soothing tones of the ocean waves lapping on the beach below. In stark contrast it was not until I was in my thirties with a successfully established career and a wardrobe full of luxury clothes, that I made the life changing decision to give up everything I had slogged my guts out for fifteen years to achieve and start again, focusing on a discipline and field that I had limited knowledge of in the middle of one of the UK's worst recessions. Turning back the hands of time, at eighteen when I left school after completing my A-Levels, I had like most ambitious and power hungry teenagers shunned the gates of university and academia, in favour of enrolling in a Swiss style yet London based finishing school, where my fellow classmates and … [Read more...]

Nicolle

Welcome to my new blog site with WordPress!  I wanted to start blogging for the same reasons that I'm sure many of you have - I'm passionate about writing, love the fact that I'm able to provide information online about all aspects of the health and wellness sector and am excited that my blogs will be of interest and help to some of you who simply don't have the time to do as much research as you would like into products, treatments, therapies and exercise regimes, due to the long working hours that have now become the norm in most capital cities. It has often been said that we value our health much more after we lose it. In a modern world focused primarily on output vs input, safeguarding our wellbeing is paramount, as is the understanding that we can greatly influence our own lifespan and future by embracing a balanced lifestyle. As a professionally qualified London trained CIDESCO and CIBTAC (Hons) Beauty Therapist, Electrolysist, Trainee Yoga Teacher, Pilates … [Read more...]
