A six step approach towards natural skincare

beauty_products

The beauty industry is a multi-billion pound global business, whose consumer savvy approach and innovative marketing techniques often leave us bombarded with inflated information regarding the newest cutting edge formulas and blinded by science surrounding the latest 'miracle' creams and 'beautyceuticals', otherwise known as products containing bioactive ingredients, that have alleged medical benefits. With recent reports claiming that a staggering number of global leading brands were found to be labelling many of their popular skin care lines as 'organic', despite containing only one certified essential oil or natural ingredient, its comes as no surprise that many of us are reverting back to basics and following our primitive desires to adopt a natural, ethical, eco-friendly and organic skin care regime? As the largest and most complex organ of the body, our skin is responsible for a multitude of actions ranging from cellular transfer and regeneration to lipid formation, … [Read more...]

Skin Care Revolution

Skin Anatomy

The approach towards skin care has over the last decade changed beyond recognition. Gone are the days in which the use of well reviewed cleansers, toners and moisturisers from leading product houses provided sufficient overall satisfaction to the modern consumer. Nowadays following the change of attitude towards cosmetic surgery and with the emergence of the medi clinic and deluxe wellness spas, who offer a broad range of treatments and services such as microdermabrasion, skin resurfacing, dermal fillers, chemical peels, body electrotherapy and nutritional advice, historic facial therapies and standard body massage treatments have slowly been outnumbered by innovative bamboo massages, acupuncture, lava shell massages, gold peel and ice cube facials and hot oil baths. Topical products have to an extent fallen victim to the resurgence of eco-friendly organic cosmetics and essential grooming services such as waxing have been challenged by the modern developments of laser … [Read more...]

Her silent partner

Poweroftouch

She was an unconventional client by type: introverted yet strong-willed, stoic but voiceless and mindful with scattered and fragmented thoughts.  Anxiety, frustration, confusion and intrepidation, now dominated her once idyllic, organised and idolised lifestyle. Many approached her with caution, some with fear and others with an overwhelming sense of affection. No two days were ever the same, although the relentless pacing, erratic food consumption and cries of anxiety remained constant. Her great loves and true passions could be counted on one hand. Collectively they provided her with an overwhelming feeling of calmness and sense of belonging, even if only for a fleeting moment in time.  1. Her twice weekly yoga sessions The room may not have been aesthetically designed for the ever faithful yoga devotee; however she was among the most loyal of clients. Her fellow classmates were few and limited in numbers, a far cry from the prolific neighbourhood studios, where advanced … [Read more...]

Can we really slow down the ageing process?

Aeging

As we age the number of healthy cells within our bodies begin to reduce.  As a result of this, our body begins to show a loss of response towards combating certain imbalances, such as stress and the effective management required to control those all important blood glucose levels. By taking a proactive approach towards our health, through the incorporation of advanced nutritional therapy, smart supplementation and regular exercise, it is believed that it is indeed possible to add a staggering five to ten years onto the projected life expectancy of a healthy individual. Before making any significant changes to your current lifestyle regime, it is important to work together with both your Doctor and Therapist, so that any previous or current medical conditions that may effect the programme may be assessed, in addition to ensuring that realistic stages of approach towards a new diet and exercise plan are bespoke to you and monitored appropriately. Four simple steps are all it takes … [Read more...]

Healthy Tips for 2012

Portrait of business colleagues holding each other and laughing

The New Year has finally arrived and with it comes the moral obligations and promises filled with determination to make renewed changes to our current lifestyles. Before embarking on radical changes that are often not realistic, approach your new goals with small yet effective steps that will allow you to not only sustain your ambitions, but also progress with each of your benchmarks. (1) Ditch the detox Over indulgence throughout the festive season may well have led to you feeling sluggish and bloated, however starving your body from the nutrients, minerals and essential fatty acids that it requires won't do it any good at all. Instead of loosing weight your body will hold onto the fats it has accumulated and store them as energy reserves and fuel. A sensible and sustainable approach will be infinitely more beneficial. Replace sugar laden foods and those high in saturated fats and salt with raw vegetables, fresh fish high in omega 3, protein rich nuts, lean meats such as chicken … [Read more...]

How Reflexology can benefit you?

Happy Feet

Reflexology is a form of therapy that stimulates specific points on the feet, hands or ears to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and improve general health. By applying gentle pressure to a series of points on the foot (for example) in specific areas, that are believed to mirror the body's internal organs reflexologists are able to assist their client/(s) in the prevention and un blocking of any stagnated energy channels. As with all complementary therapists Reflexologists do not diagnose or prescribe, they instead create bespoke treatment plans for each of their clients, which are not only relaxing but also encourage the body to heal and maintain natural homeostasis. A reflexology appointment usually takes ninety minutes, with time prior to the therapy itself being allocated to completing a comprehensive client consultation form, which includes previous medical history, current concerns and the listing of any contraindications that may prevent the … [Read more...]

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy2

Everyone has their favourite aromatic scent that they can make an association with. Whether it is the subtle and sedative heart note of rose,  found in the architectural English country garden, to the seasonal festive base note of frankincense, culinary herbal healers of rosemary and thyme or provincial fragrance of lavender, the profusion of essential oils awakens our sense of smell, by infusing the air with a delightful plethora of characteristic tones. But what exactly is aromatherapy? Most of us are aware that plant oils have been used for thousands of years for their culinary and medicinal  properties, in addition to their inclusion in cosmetics, incense and perfumes, however how did their addition as primary ingredients in the cosmetics world evolve and when were their powerful benefits discovered? Ancient civilizations became forefathers in the use of oils as therapeutic applications. In Ayurvedic, Chinese, Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Arabic medicines, the properties of … [Read more...]

Why change career in your thirties?

Awakening to a new life

My journey into the magical world of health and beauty did not follow the usual pathway of leaving school at an early age with dreams of working in a luxury exotic spa performing daily massages surrounded by palm trees, idyllic sands and the gentle soothing tones of the ocean waves lapping on the beach below. In stark contrast it was not until I was in my thirties with a successfully established career and a wardrobe full of luxury clothes, that I made the life changing decision to give up everything I had slogged my guts out for fifteen years to achieve and start again, focusing on a discipline and field that I had limited knowledge of in the middle of one of the UK's worst recessions. Turning back the hands of time, at eighteen when I left school after completing my A-Levels, I had like most ambitious and power hungry teenagers shunned the gates of university and academia, in favour of enrolling in a Swiss style yet London based finishing school, where my fellow classmates and … [Read more...]
