When in 2010 Aqua Sheko the much publicised Kensington Fish Spa opened its doors, numerous beauty salons were quick to follow suit by offering this novelty treatment that had originated in Turkey in the 19th Century and been a firm favourite of the Japanese market for years. Tiny Garra Rufa freshwater fish, native to the river basins of the Middle East and hot springs of Turkey are kept in specialist heated and filtered tanks, into which the customer’s feet (post cleansing) are gently placed.
